Dental Sealants Treatment for Children

Reduce cavities in children with dental sealants treatments. Visit West Allis Dental Care.

A sealant is a clear plastic material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars) in the depressions and grooves of the teeth.  These grooves (pits and fissures) are sometimes impossible to keep clean.  They are snug places for plaque and bits of food to hide, which can lead to decay.  A sealant forms a thin covering over these areas to keep out plaque and food and thus decreases the risk of decay.  Sealants are most commonly recommended for children, however, in some cases adults may benefit also.

Applying a sealant is a very simple procedure and only takes a few minutes.  Sealants last several years but may need to be re-applied to continue protection against decay.  Sealants are checked during regular routine dental cleanings and exams.
