Laser Gum Treatments (Non-Surgical)
In advanced cases of periodontal disease, or bone loss, a patient may need more treatment than just a regular cleaning or scaling or root planning. In the past a dentist may refer a patient to the periodontal specialist where they would cut the gums away to remove the bacteria or tartar and then stitch the gums back. The recovery time was long and the procedure was painful. We now offer the laser treatment. After a scaling and root planing, the doctor uses a laser to remove any damaged or infected tissue. It also helps kill the bacteria causing the gum disease and promote healing. Depending on how deep the pockets are between the patients teeth and gums is how they determine how many visits will be necessary. It ranges from 2-5 appointments with a month checkup after all laser treatments are completed. At the one month check the dentist will decide if touch-up procedures are required at no charge. The treatment itself is not as invasive and the recovery is minimal compared to original periodontal surgery.
